Maxis launches 3.5G or HSDPA Residential Broadband!

Postby computinglaptops » Wed Sep 27, 2006 12:29 am

With about 200 base stations configured to handle HSDPA or 3.5G high speed broadband in the Klang Valley, Maxis today launched the world's first RESIDENTIAL broadband service delivered thru HSDPA.

Two packages are available:
384kpbs/384kbps at RM50 for unlimited downlaods
768kbps/384kbps at RM80 for unlimited downloads

The modem supplied is the world's first low-cost HSDPA modem. You can either buy it RM299 or rent it for RM18!

Maxis broadband capped at 3GB/month

Postby nacci » Wed Sep 27, 2006 8:24 am

You can use only up to 3GB of upload and download. It is stated under MAXIS BROADBAND FAIR USAGE POLICY located in
http://www.maxis.com.my/personal/broadband/termncon.asp
under clause 5.3.1.

"Each customer’s total usage per month shall NOT exceed 3GB of data volume transmitted (total upload and download usage). This is to ensure that no individual hogs the bandwidth at all times."

I don't think Maxis broadband is for me even though I don't use peer-to-peer, bittorrent, etc.

I hope Maxis mobile customers get a discount on this home service just like Streamyx and Celcom.

Why 3.5G speed is so low ?

384kpbs/384kbps at RM50 for unlimited downlaods
768kbps/384kbps at RM80 for unlimited downloads

Not worth to subscribe.... :x

3GB limit per month. Anything more than the 3GB usage required a written request to Maxis to increase the usage. This definitely not worth it.
